Cis-5-tetradecenoic acid is a mitochondrial fatty acid that has been shown to be involved in the regulation of cardiac function. It has been found to decrease mitochondrial membrane potential and release of ATP, which are both related to mitochondrial functions. Cis-5-tetradecenoic acid is also associated with creatine kinase activity and the structural analysis of mitochondria. This fatty acid is used as a diagnostic tool for mitochondrial acyl chain disorders, such as dehydrogenase deficiency.
