2-(Dimethylamino)pyrimidine-4,6-diol (DAPY) is a chemosensor that has been used to detect the presence of various analytes in biological samples. DAPY is a reagent for use in organic synthesis and organometallic chemistry. It has been shown to be a highly selective catalyst for the hydrogenation of C-C bonds and for the reduction of C=O bonds. DAPY also catalyzes the oxidation of alcohols with hydrogen peroxide in the presence of platinum. This chemosensor can be used to detect endogenous compounds such as dopamine, serotonin, and acetylcholine. The fluorescence intensity increases with increasing concentrations of these analytes. The fluorescent signal can also be quenched by addition of an excess amount of analyte or by adding an excess amount of solvent.
