Product Information
7-Methoxy-4H-chromen-4-one is a dietary agent that has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro. 7-Methoxy-4H-chromen-4-one is metabolized by tyrosinase to produce 7,8,3',4'-tetrahydroxychromenol and 7,8,3',4'-trihydroxychromenol. It has potent antitumor activity and may work through a mechanism involving reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation. The molecule binds to the mitochondrial membrane potential, leading to apoptosis by inhibiting ATP production and increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS). Ferreira et al. used nmr spectroscopy to show that 7 methoxy 4H chromen 4 one exhibits an antiproliferation effect by altering the hydrogen bond network of the cancer cell's mitochondria.
