Product Information
5-Iodomethyl-pyrrolidin-2-one is an antibiotic that binds to the bacterial cell membrane and blocks the production of energy. This molecule has been shown to be an analog of carbapenems, which are used as a last-resort treatment for multidrug resistant bacteria. 5-Iodomethyl-pyrrolidin-2-one also has cyclization activity, which causes it to bind to DNA in a similar fashion as carbapenems. The antibiotics activity of this molecule may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis by binding to ribosomal RNA in the cell's cytoplasm.
