4-Benzyl-2-phenyloxazol-5(4H)-one is a chiral, reactive, and colorimetric compound that can be used in the synthesis of oxazolones. It has been shown to react with allyl alcohol to form the product (E)-2-(4'-benzyloxybiphenyl-2-yl)propene. The optical purity of 4-benzyl-2-phenyloxazol-5(4H)-one was determined by a reversed phase HPLC method and was found to be greater than 99%. The residue of the compound was found to be less than 0.01%.
