Product Information
Convolvamine hydrochloride is a drug candidate for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. It binds to intracellular lipid, which is a target protein in Alzheimer's disease. Convolvamine hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the production of beta-amyloid and tau proteins, which are involved in the progression of Alzheimer's disease. The drug candidate also inhibits proteolytic enzymes that degrade extracellular amyloid precursor protein (APP). This inhibition prevents APP from being processed into beta-amyloid, thereby reducing levels of this toxic protein. Convolvamine hydrochloride also inhibits phospholipase A2, which may be an important step in preventing inflammation in the brain.
