Diphenyl(o-tolyl)phosphine is a molecule that belongs to the group of phosphines. It has a phenyl group and two protonated phenyl groups. The functional theory for this molecule is based on the resonance of the double bonds in the benzene ring. The nmr spectra for this molecule are found to be broad, which indicates that diphenyl(o-tolyl)phosphine is not very stable. This molecule has been observed to interact with magnetic particles and show antibacterial effects against gram-positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Diphenyl(o-tolyl)phosphine chelate ligands have also been shown to bind more strongly to chloride ions than hydrogen chloride ions, which may be due to their coordination geometry.
