2,6-Bis(2-ethylhexyl)-7a-methylhexahydro-1H-imidazo[1,5-c]imidazole (hexedine) is a synthetic antibiotic. It is an antifungal agent and has been shown to inhibit the growth of viruses, parasites and bacteria. Hexedine is used as a medicine for the treatment of microorganisms, fungi, parasites and bacteria. Hexedine belongs to the group of antibiotics called imidazoles. It binds to the enzyme DNA gyrase and inhibits its activity. This prevents DNA synthesis in the bacterial cell and leads to cell death.
