N-Benzyl-3-pyrrolidone (NBP) is a synthetic chemical that has the potential to be used as an enzyme inhibitor. NBP inhibits aminotransferase activity by binding to the enzyme's active site, thereby blocking its ability to catalyze reactions. This compound can also be used as a building block in organic synthesis, as it is efficient and stereoselective in coupling with various amines. The aliphatic hydrocarbon at the end of the molecule can be converted into other compounds by using ethyl bromoacetate and propionate, which are both commercially available chemicals.
