Description:

2-(3'-Bromophenyl)-1,3-dioxolane is a chemosensor that has been synthesized to be an analog of the five-membered heterocycle, 1,3-dioxolane. It was synthesized by reacting 2-bromo-4-methylphenylacetonitrile with potassium tert-butoxide. The reaction yielded the desired product in a yield of 77%. The compound was then characterized by x-ray diffraction study and fluorescent studies. The synthetic process for this compound is very simple and could be applied to other heterocycles as well.
