Name:
3-Bromo-2-cyanopyridine
Synonyms:
  • 2-Pyridinecarbonitrile, 3-bromo-
  • 3-Bromopyridine-2-carbonitrile
Description:

3-Bromo-2-cyanopyridine is an organic compound that is a reactive, cellular, and inorganic solvent. It is a proton donor and reacts with hydrogen chloride to form the salt 3-bromo-2-chloropyridine. This compound has been shown to have cancer chemotherapeutic properties, which may be due to its ability to cause DNA strand breaks. 3-Bromo-2-cyanopyridine has also been shown to react with tetrazole and chloride to form 3-(1,2,4-triazolium)pyridinium bromide. The modifications of this molecule are unknown but it is postulated that they may be related to the antioxidant activity of this compound.
