3-Bromopropyl thiolacetate is a reactive n-oxide that is used as an insecticide. 3-Bromopropyl thiolacetate has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase, with little effect on butyrylcholinesterase. It also inhibits lipid biosynthesis, and so may be used as a control agent for pests such as houseflies and cockroaches. This chemical has been shown to have some activity against the ryanodine receptor in the heart muscle cells of rats, which may lead to potential neonicotinoid side effects. 3-Bromopropyl thiolacetate is a nucleophilic agent that can form conjugates with other molecules, including neonicotinoids.
