1,2-Bis(dimethylamino)-N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1,2-ethanediiminium bis(trifluoromethanethiolate) is a genotoxic compound that can induce DNA damage and cell death. It has been shown to have a diameter of 3.5 nm in mammalian cells and an octanol/water partition coefficient of 10.1. 1,2-Bis(dimethylamino)-N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1,2-ethanediiminium bis(trifluoromethanethiolate) has been shown to be effective against prostate cancer cells in vitro and in vivo with a potency of up to 10 nmol/L. This drug also inhibits the growth of prostate cancer cells by acting as an inhibitor for fatty acid synthesis.
