tert-Butyl (E)-7-[3'-(4''-fluorophenyl)-1'-methylethyl-indol-2'-yl]-3-hydroxy-5-oxo-6-heptenoate is a synthetic fluorinated substrate that has been used in the laboratory for wastewater treatment. The reaction yields of tert-butyl (E)-7-[3'-(4''fluorophenyl)-1'-methylethylindol-2'-yl]-3-hydroxy-5-oxo6 heptenoate are similar to those of the more common statins, such as atorvastatin and pravastatin. This substrate reacts with an enzyme called cholesterol oxidase to form an alkylating agent that is immobilized on a solid support. This reaction occurs in organic solvents, such as diethyl ether or dichloromethane, which allow for the preparation of large quantities
