Description:
5-bromo-1,3-difluoro-2-methoxybenzene (5BDMF) is a precursor to 5,6-dichloro-1,3-difluoro-2-methoxybenzene (DDMF). Optimization of the diazotization reaction with 5BDMF and sodium nitrite was investigated in order to find the best conditions for the production of DDMF. The optimal conditions were found to be 4.0 g of 5BDMF in 100 mL of water with 0.2 g of sodium nitrite at 50 °C for 1 h. The yield from this reaction was found to be 67%. 5BDMF can also be used for the methoxylation and cyanation reactions, which are monitored by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and spectrophotometry respectively.
