1-Bromo-3-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzene is a synthetic nucleoside analogue that is used as an antiviral drug. It is thought to work by preventing the polymerase from initiating DNA synthesis and by interfering with the replication of viral RNA. 1-Bromo-3-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzene has been shown to be effective against HIV in vitro, but has not yet been tested in humans. The drug has also shown activity against herpes simplex virus type 1, human cytomegalovirus, and human T lymphotropic virus type I. 1-Bromo-3-fluoro-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzene inhibits cellular DNA synthesis by forming covalent bonds with carbonyl groups on cellular proteins. This process prevents the initiation of replication and leads to cell death.
