It is also used to prepare optical sensors for detecting hydrogen peroxide and oxygen, which can be applied in many fields, such as environmental monitoring. 3-bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile is also able to remove halogens from organic compounds through debromination and dehalogenation reactions. The removal of bromide ions from water can be achieved by electrolysis with 3-bromo-4-(trifluoromethyl)benzonitrile.
The reaction between the compound and acid produces acidic potentials, which may be measured by various types of sensors.
