2-Bromophenoxyacetic acid (2BPAA) is a plant growth regulator that belongs to the group of phenoxy compounds. It is an inhibitor of auxin biosynthesis and its application can result in stunted growth, decreased root formation, and suppression of lateral branching. 2BPAA also has synergistic effects with phthalic acid and inhibits the growth of plants infected with virus or bacteria. 2BPAA may be useful for the treatment of sweet potato weevils, which are pests that feed on the roots of sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes are grown primarily in East Asia, Africa, and Central America. The macroscopic characteristics of sweet potatoes include a dark brown skin, white flesh, and red eyes.
