- 1-Butyl-4-Isocyanatobenzene
1-Butyl-4-isocyanatobenzene (1BIIB) is a nitro compound that has been shown to be an effective inhibitor of the enzyme acyl coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase and to reduce cholesterol levels in mice. 1BIIB also inhibits the activity of other enzymes, such as human fatty acid synthetase, which are involved with lipid metabolism. The chemical structure of 1BIIB is similar to that of other nitro compounds and it can be activated by a variety of methods, such as heating or exposure to light.
