Product Information
- (1-Benzylpiperidin-4-Yl)Methanamine
- 4-(Ammoniomethyl)-1-Benzylpiperidinium
(1-Benzylpiperidin-4-yl)methylamine is a cholinergic drug that is used to treat Alzheimer's disease. It has been shown to be neuroprotective in cell culture and animal models of Parkinson's disease, and is also being studied for its potential to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. (1-Benzylpiperidin-4-yl)methylamine binds to the acetylcholinesterase enzyme, preventing it from breaking down acetylcholine and blocking the action of this neurotransmitter. This leads to an increase in acetylcholine levels in the brain, which improves cognitive function. (1-Benzylpiperidin-4-yl)methylamine is a positional isomer of donepezil, which does not bind as tightly to the acetylcholinesterase enzyme. Although donepezil is currently used for Alzheimer's Disease, it may have more side effects
