Description:
5-Bromo-1-methyl-1,3-dihydro-2H-indol-2-one is an atypical indoline that has a planar conformation. It is a five membered ring with approximates benzene in its structure, and as such, it can undergo reductive cleavage. 5BMDIA also has substituents on the three carbons of the five membered ring or on the heterocyclic nitrogen atom. The five membered ring can be reduced to an oxindole by hydrazine.
