7-Bromo-1-tetralone is an organic compound that can be used to circumvent the C8 and C9 positions of a cycloalkane for the synthesis of complex molecules. The molecule is unreactive and has no functional groups or functionalities. 7-Bromo-1-tetralone has been shown to react with pentafluorophenyl phosphorus pentoxide in the presence of temperatures greater than 120°C, resulting in a number of different products. These products include butyric acid, which is an important precursor for a variety of pharmaceuticals, and survivin, which is an antiapoptotic protein involved in cell survival.
