Description:

1H-Benzimidazole-2-carboxylic acid (1HBA) is a benzimidazole that has been used in the treatment of endometriosis. It inhibits the growth of bacteria by interfering with the production of nicotinic acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. 1HBA also exhibits bactericidal activity against P. aeruginosa, an opportunistic pathogen found in cystic fibrosis patients. The antimicrobial activity of 1HBA may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with aromatic hydrocarbons such as styrene and naphthalene.
