Product Information
- 1H-benzimidazole-1-ethanol
- 1-Benzimidazoleethanol
2-(1H-Benzimidazol-1-yl)ethanol is a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme anhydrase. It has been shown to be effective against cytosolic anhydrase and carbonic anhydrase. This drug also has anti-tumor activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit protein synthesis in tumor cells. 2-(1H-Benzimidazol-1-yl)ethanol binds to the active site of the enzyme and causes a conformational change, which results in inhibition of the enzyme's activity. The molecular electrostatic potential (MEP) technique has been used to analyze this molecule and determine its inhibitory properties. The MEP technique is based on the assumption that molecules with similar shapes will have similar electrostatic potentials, making it possible to distinguish between different compounds.
