6-Bromohexanenitrile is an inhibitory compound that binds to the opioid receptor. It has been shown to have a cytotoxic effect on cancer cells in vitro, as well as an antibacterial effect against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. 6-Bromohexanenitrile also inhibits topoisomerase I and II activity, which may be responsible for its antitumor effects. 6-Bromohexanenitrile has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of mononuclear cells in vitro, and it has been used successfully to treat brain tumors in animals. The binding of 6-bromohexanenitrile with the opioid receptor is thought to be due to its structural similarity with morphine.
