2-(2-Bromoethyl)piperidine hydrobromide is a crystalline solid that can be prepared by the reaction of potassium with lithium diisopropylamide. It is soluble in diethyl ether and ethyl acetate, but insoluble in water. 2-(2-Bromoethyl)piperidine hydrobromide has been used as a catalyst for acrylate alkylation reactions, providing a higher yield than other catalysts. It also has been used to reduce intramolecular hydrides and methyl ethers. This compound is an isomer of 2-(2-Bromoethyl)piperidine hydrochloride and 2-(2-Bromoethyl)pyridine hydrochloride.
