4-(Benzylamino)phenol is a reactive aminophenol. It has been shown to react with halides, such as nitrobenzene and chlorobenzene, and ribulose. The product of this reaction is dehydroascorbic acid, which can be further oxidized to produce hydrogen peroxide. 4-(Benzylamino)phenol has also been used as a fluorescent probe for amines. This compound is also one of the three components used in the preparation of fluorescent probes for amino acids. Additionally, 4-(Benzylamino)phenol has been shown to have fluorescence properties that are dependent on its environment. For example, this molecule fluoresces when it is dissolved in certain solvents or when it is heated.
