Description:
6-Bromo-5-methyl-1H-indole-2,3-dione is a molecule that modulates the host immune response by inducing proinflammatory cytokines. It has been shown to inhibit the production of TNF-α in uninfected and alphavirus infected human cells. 6BMID also inhibits the transcription of the virus's RNA and prevents virus replication in cells. 6BMID has been shown to have neuroprotective effects in mice, which may be due to its ability to activate an antiapoptotic pathway. 6BMID has been tested on uninfected human cells as well as cell lines infected with alphaviruses such as Sindbis, Semliki Forest, and Venezuelan Equine Encephalitis.
