Description

1,2-Benzisoxazol-6-ol is an industrial chemical that can be used as a peracid or chlorine. It has been used in the manufacture of dyes and plastics. 1,2-Benzisoxazol-6-ol is also a uricosuric agent that can be used to treat gout. It works by inhibiting URAT1, a transporter protein involved in the reabsorption of uric acid into the blood stream. This leads to decreased levels of uric acid in the body and increased excretion of uric acid in urine, which reduces pain associated with gout. 1,2-Benzisoxazol-6-ol is not carcinogenic and may react with other compounds to form carcinogenic substances.
