2-(Benzoylamino)benzoic acid is a molecule that has been shown to have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. It inhibits the production of nitric oxide, which can be detrimental to the immune system. 2-(Benzoylamino)benzoic acid binds to anthranilic acid, an intermediate in the synthesis of neurotransmitter tryptophan. This binding inhibits the enzyme activity of dianthramide, which is responsible for converting anthranilic acid into indole-3-pyruvic acid. 2-(Benzoylamino)benzoic acid has been shown to inhibit inflammatory diseases by blocking enzymes that are involved in the synthesis of prostaglandins and leukotrienes.
