1-(Bromomethyl)-2-isothiocyanatobenzene (1-BMI) is a peroxide that is used as a precursor to other bifunctional and dibenzoyl amines. 1-BMI is non-polar and has the ability to form strong hydrogen bonds, which allows it to function as a good solvent for organic solvents. In addition, 1-BMI can be used in the synthesis of heterocycles and nucleophilic amines. This compound's carbon tetrachloride reaction yields are higher than those of hexamethylenetetramine.
