1-(1,3-Benzothiazol-2-yl)ethanone is a fluorescence probe that is used in chemoenzymatic synthesis to measure the rate of reactions. It has been shown to enhance rates of reactions by acting as a nucleophile and reacting with pyridinium. This compound has also been used to fabricate polymers that are mesoporous in nature. 1-(1,3-Benzothiazol-2-yl)ethanone can be synthesized from aldehydes and natural products such as enaminones. It reacts with an amine group on the polymers to form a covalent bond. The resulting polymer is called poly(1,3-benzothiazole).
