N-(tert-Butoxycarbonyl)-L-phenylalaninamide is a potentiating agent that has been shown to increase the potency of bradykinin by acting as a chain terminator. It can occur in two forms, depending on the position of the hydroxyl group. The amino group forms an amide with the carboxylic acid and the hydroxy group forms an ester with the tert-butoxycarbonyl group. N-(tert-Butoxycarbonyl)-L-phenylalaninamide is used as an antihypertensive agent. It is also used as an analog for peptides and antihypertensive agents that are based on amino acids, such as L-DOPA, which has been shown to have beneficial effects in Parkinson's disease.
