Description

3-(Benzylthio)propanoic acid is a modified amino acid that is used in the study of the cardiovascular system. It has been shown to have pressor activity, and can be used to treat hypotension (low blood pressure). 3-(Benzylthio)propanoic acid also prevents vasopressor-induced hypertension by antagonizing the effects of vasopressin. 3-(Benzylthio)propanoic acid may also be useful for treatment of metabolic disorders, such as diabetes mellitus, because it may increase insulin sensitivity.
