2-Benzoylhydrazinecarbothioamide (BHCA) is a compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria in vitro. BHCA specifically inhibits bacterial phosphatases, which are enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of phosphate esters. It also has been shown to have some anticancer properties and can be used as a control agent for other antimicrobial agents. 2-Benzoylhydrazinecarbothioamide is structurally similar to triazole antifungal drugs such as fluconazole and it is hypothesized that BHCA may act similarly by forming hydrogen bonding interactions with the target enzyme.
