Description:
N-(4-Biphenyl-4-yl-1,3-thiazol-2-yl)-2-chloroacetamide is a crystalline compound that belongs to the class of phenyl imidazole derivatives. It is an asymmetric compound that is used in the study of conformations and hydrogen bonds. The effects of x-ray diffraction on this compound have been studied extensively and it has been found that there are two independent conformations, one with the thiazole nitrogen eclipsing the other with the thiazole nitrogen parallel to the plane containing the imidazole rings. In each conformation, there are four hydrogen bonds formed between N-(4-biphenyl-4-yl-1,3-thiazol-2-yl)-2 chloroacetamide and water molecules.
