Description:
5-(4-Bromophenyl)-2-furoic acid (5-BPF) is a drug that is currently under development for the treatment of bacterial infections. 5-BPF is an antibiotic that inhibits the growth of Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which are hard to treat with other antibiotics. It may also be effective against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae. 5-BPF has been shown to have a good oral bioavailability and exhibits broad spectrum activity against common multidrug resistant bacteria.
