4-(4-Bromophenyl)-2-methyl-1,3-thiazole is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that inhibits the growth of microbial cells by binding to the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase. 4-(4-Bromophenyl)-2-methyl-1,3-thiazole binds to acceptor sites on the enzyme and prevents it from catalyzing the synthesis of dihydropteroate from paraaminobenzoic acid. This drug is effective against a wide range of bacteria and has been used in clinical trials for patients with staphylococcus infections. 4-(4-Bromophenyl)-2-methyl-1,3-thiazole also demonstrates potent activity against Gram negative bacteria, including Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
