1,4-Bis(chloroacetyl)piperazine is a fluorescent chemosensor that changes its fluorescence intensity in response to chloride ions. It is used as a chloride ion sensor that can be used for viscosity measurements. The sensor responds to the presence of chloride by increasing the rate of anhydrous sodium reaction and producing piperazine. This product can be used to monitor the progress of reactions or measure the concentration of chloride in a solution. 1,4-Bis(chloroacetyl)piperazine has been shown to react with 8-hydroxyquinoline in dimethylformamide to produce a sigmoidal curve with an increase in signal intensity at lower concentrations and high concentrations.
