Product Information

Name:
5-Bromo-6-methylquinoline
Synonyms:
  • quinoline
  • 5-bromo-6-methyl-
Description:

5-Bromo-6-methylquinoline is a 5HT1 receptor agonist that is used as a pharmacological and biochemical tool. It has been shown to inhibit the uptake of serotonin in rat synaptosomes and can be used as a nonselective reuptake inhibitor. 5-Bromo-6-methylquinoline has also been shown to cause an increase in extracellular dopamine levels in rats, leading to locomotor activation. The spectrum of pharmacological profiles for this compound includes inhibition of dopamine uptake, inhibition of serotonin uptake, and stimulation of dopamine release. This reuptake inhibitor binds reversibly to the presynaptic transporter, blocking the reuptake of serotonin (5HT) and increasing the synaptic concentration.
