tert-Butyl {[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]oxy}carbamate (TBOC) is a modification of the amide group that has been used as a peptidomimetic. TBOC has shown antibacterial activity against bacteria like Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. TBOC is prepared by reacting 4-methylbenzenesulfonyl chloride with tert-butanol in an organic solvent, such as chloroform or dichloromethane. The reaction produces a chiral tert-butyl ester intermediate, which is then treated with hydrogen chloride to produce TBOC. This compound has also been used to prepare asymmetric synthesis of organometallic compounds, such as magnesium iodide and magnesium bromide. Preparative methods for preparing primary amines are also known.br>br>
