Bis(tributyltin) is a bidentate ligand that has been used as a catalyst for the synthesis of polymers, amides, and other organic compounds. Bis(tributyltin) can react with malonic acid to form methyl ketones, which may cause cancer in humans. This chemical has also been shown to have genotoxic effects and inhibit growth factor activity. Bis(tributyltin) can induce necrotic cell death in cells through its ability to cause oxidative stress and promote chain reactions. It also binds to receptors on the surface of cells, which can lead to the inhibition of insulin production in diabetes patients.
