Description:
(R,R)-KW3049 is a selective inhibitor of the enzyme cGMP-specific 3',5'-cyclic phosphodiesterase (PDE3B) and has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of human epidermal keratinocytes. It has also been shown to reduce the ventricular mass index in chronic kidney disease patients with heart failure. The long-term efficacy of this drug has been demonstrated in clinical studies. This drug's mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it appears to work by regulating the levels of intracellular Ca2+ ions. This inhibition may be due to its ability to sequester extracellular Ca2+ ions into cells or by inhibiting the production of cGMP, which is required for the activation of protein kinase G (PKG).
