Description:

5-Bromopyrimidin-4-amine is a nucleophilic amine that can be used in the synthesis of uridine. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme uridine phosphorylase, which catalyzes the conversion of uridine to uracil. 5-Bromopyrimidin-4-amine has been shown to inhibit Giardia lamblia and Trichomonas vaginalis in vitro cultures. The compound has been shown to be effective in blocking the growth of these parasites by inhibiting their ability to produce ATP. This inhibition is due to its ability to form a covalent bond with phosphate groups in the parasite's DNA and RNA, thereby preventing cell division and transcription. 5-Bromopyrimidin-4-amine also inhibits chloride ion transport across membranes, which may be responsible for its inhibitory effect on giardia lamblia. As a nitro compound, it can be modified with nitro groups or hal
