Product Information
- Benzoic Acid, 4-Bromo-3-Methoxy-
4-Bromo-3-methoxybenzoic acid is a uricosuric agent that inhibits the uptake of uric acid by the renal tubules. 4-Bromo-3-methoxybenzoic acid is metabolized by the liver, where it undergoes oxidative activation and then reacts with glutathione to form a conjugate. The metabolites are then excreted in urine. The metabolic activation of 4-bromo-3-methoxybenzoic acid is mediated by cytochrome P450 enzymes, which may have implications for its safety profile. In vitro studies have shown that this drug has cytotoxic effects on mouse hepatocytes but not on human hepatocytes. In vivo studies have also shown that 4-bromo-3-methoxybenzoic acid has an inhibitory effect on benzbromarone metabolism, which may be due to inhibition of transporter activity.
