Product Information

Name:
2-Bromo-5-methoxyphenol
Synonyms:
  • 4-Bromo-3-hydroxyanisole
  • Phenol, 2-bromo-5-methoxy-
Description:

2-Bromo-5-methoxyphenol is a reagent that can be used in organic synthesis. It can be used to synthesize anhydrides and acetyl chloride by bromination reactions. 2-Bromo-5-methoxyphenol reacts with tert-butyldimethylsilyl chloride to form the acetyl chloride. The reaction is carried out in a solvent such as dimethylformamide or dichloromethane under heat. The product of this reaction has been found to have the same reactivity as acetyl chloride, but is more stable and less reactive than acetyl chloride.
