Product Information

Name:
1-Bromo-3-methoxypropane
Description:

1-Bromo-3-methoxypropane is a quaternary ammonium salt that is used in organic synthesis. It is an acetylating agent and can be used for the preparation of carbonic esters, Grignard reagents, and anhydrous sodium bromide. 1-Bromo-3-methoxypropane reacts with anhydrous magnesium to form magnesium bromide as a byproduct. The reaction between 1-bromo-3-methoxypropane and anhydrous sodium is catalysed by the enzyme carbonic anhydrase. This reaction mechanism is believed to involve two steps: first the conversion of the bromide ion to the reactive electrophilic species BrO+; second, the addition of one molecule of water to produce a hydrobromide ion HBrO+ and hydrogen peroxide (HOOH). Fluorescent probes such as fluorescein or rhodamine have
