5-Bromo-2-methoxybenzoic acid is a racemic mixture of two enantiomers that have affinity for benzodiazepine receptors in the brain. 5-Bromo-2-methoxybenzoic acid binds to the GABA receptor, which is responsible for mediating the inhibitory effects of this neurotransmitter. It has been suggested that 5-bromo-2-methoxybenzoic acid has a higher affinity for the GABA receptor than diazepam (Valium), which may be due to its chlorine substituent. It has also been shown that 5-bromo-2-methoxybenzoic acid has a higher affinity for the GABA receptor than other benzodiazepines. The optimal dose range is between 1 and 10 mg/kg.
