Product Information
6-Bromo-2-chloro-3-iodopyridine is a nucleophilic reagent that is used in the synthesis of antiviral agents. It is a cytostatic agent that inhibits DNA and RNA synthesis by nucleophilic substitution of the heterocyclic ring. 6-Bromo-2-chloro-3-iodopyridine can be synthesized from 2,6-dibromopyridine and iodine. This compound has been shown to cross react with deoxyribose and deoxyribonucleosides, which are intermediates in DNA replication. 6Bromo-2 chloro 3 iodopyridine has also been shown to inhibit HIV reverse transcriptase through a nonselective process that is mediated by two different mechanisms: (1) competitive inhibition of the enzyme's substrate binding site, or (2) chemical modification of the enzyme's active site.
