The 5-HT1A receptor is a target for atypical antipsychotics, which are used in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. 4-Bromo-2-nitrobenzonitrile also inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) by blocking the 5HT transporter.
